A long weekend of brick laying!
Last Monday was Victoria Day so Mal was off for 3 days!! We decided that as we had the time and the weather was supposed to be sunny we would attempt to tackle our front walkway and create a garden in front of the porch.
Friday after work Mal went to Kent and bought a ton of bricks. The next morning the 3 of us piled in the pick up truck and went back to Kent (regular country bumpkins we were) where we bought more bricks ...we also took a run buy the Home Depot to pick a de-thatcher for us and the neighbors. Fortunately our neighbors also like to take care of their lawns so we all pitched in and the weekend rental became rather inexpensive!
Saturday was a beautiful day so we started digging up the existing gravel walkway and the area for the garden wall ... oooh by that night we were sore already! But the sun shone again on Sunday and as they were calling for rain on Monday we busted our buts to get the garden wall built ... Fortunately it did not rain on Monday as it took us ALL day to finish ... 3 truck loads of dirt later and finally it was complete.
Well we finished as much as it could be ... our plan for the walkway is to have the stones within the grass ... we put down grass seed ...so once it actually grows it will look as it should :-)! AND the large garden is now ready for plants .... we are hoping to get some this week!
I must mention that we plopped Ella's playpen on the front porch and she enjoyed watching us work :-) She slept so much ... and so well during the night that we are certain it was all the fresh air ... or exhaustion by osmosis!
While this project was very satisfying ... it was quite arduous and not cheap ...for those of you who have seen our property (its pretty big) ...finishing our landscaping could take YEARS!
Mal sluggin' dirt ... this small area took 3 truck loads!
Aha ... the walkway and the wall... I wanted to "clean" off the stones but Mal convinced me that until the grass starts to come it would be a waste of time :-)! Probably a good idea!
Exactly what we wanted! I will send an updated photo once we get our plants in!!
Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend!!!

It is very impressive that you did all that in a weekend! You must have been going straight time. It does look great and I can't wait to see it with the shrubberies!
Great job!!!! Looks fantastic :)
